I have a friend who took Levaquin and after beginning it she began to have ringing in her ears. She told the doctor and he said not to worry. When she stopped taking it, the ringing went away.

A few months later she had a recurrent urinary tract infection and the doctor again prescribed Levaquin. She had ringing in the ears again and stopped taking the drug - however she has had permanent (or at least prolonged) hearing loss! I have helped her research the drug and can find nothing or no one else who has experienced problems with hearing loss or tinnitus. The only lead I got was in the PDR tinnitus was listed as occurring in less than .5% of the clinical trial without regard to drug interaction. Does anyone know anything about hearing being affected? Please help. Thanks.
